Austrian Ambassador Discusses Bilateral Ties and Economic Challenges with Pakistani Senator

ISLAMABAD, Austrian Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E Andrea Wicke, met with Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and address mutual economic concerns.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting focused on various aspects of the economic relationship between Pakistan and Austria. Senator Mandviwalla outlined the economic challenges facing Pakistan, emphasizing the need for significant reforms. He highlighted Pakistan’s strategic potential, including its coastline and road connectivity, and the importance of Gwadar Port.

The discussion also touched upon the delay in the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project and the energy scarcity in Pakistan. Trade relations, governance issues, and the necessity for comprehensive reforms were also addressed.

Ambassador Wicke noted the challenges posed by population growth in Pakistan and stressed the importance of focusing on socio-economic development and education. The discussion extended to Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP+) status and trade relations with the European Union.

Senator Mandviwalla briefed Ambassador Wicke on the upcoming General Elections in Pakistan, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the democratic process. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their commitment to enhancing Austria-Pakistan relations and addressing shared challenges for mutual benefit.
