Aurangzeb Urges Stronger Cyber Security in Financial Sector


Aurangzeb: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has highlighted the critical need for bolstering cyber security measures to safeguard Pakistan’s financial infrastructure while supporting the nation’s digital transformation and economic development goals.



According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb chaired a virtual meeting with Presidents and Chief Executive Officers of commercial banks, along with their Chief Information Security Officers. The Finance Minister stressed the importance of a structured and phased approach to cyber security, focusing on immediate risk mitigation, medium-term capacity building, and long-term resilience. The meeting aimed to enhance cyber-security preparedness across Pakistan’s financial sector in response to emerging technological risks and evolving threat dynamics.



Aurangzeb called on the State Bank and Pakistan Banks’ Association to conduct a thorough review of existing frameworks, identify significant gaps, and assess all aspects of cyber risk management and institutional preparedness. He emphasized the importance of close coordination among relevant departments to develop actionable recommendations to strengthen the cyber-security posture of the banking sector. The discussions also underscored the necessity of translating policy intent into effective implementation through improved coordination and clearly defined institutional responsibilities.



The meeting reflected Pakistan’s active participation in the global dialogue on cyber-security, financial stability, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies in the financial sector.
