APHC Calls for UN Intervention to Address India’s Actions in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called on the United Nations to take immediate action against India for alleged atrocities in the occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir, seeking accountability and intervention.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement in Srinagar, condemning the Indian government’s alleged practices of torture, property seizure, and suppression of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. This condemnation includes ongoing cordon and search operations and frequent house raids which are said to oppress the local populace.

Minhas detailed the involvement of various Indian forces, including paramilitary, police, and investigative agencies, which he claims are employed to terrorize the residents of Kashmir to stifle their demand for self-rule. He accused the current Indian administration of manipulating judicial processes to intimidate Kashmiri leaders, journalists, scholars, and citizens through unfounded legal charges.

The statement highlighted the resilient spirit of the Kashmiris who, despite severe measures, continue to advocate for their right to a plebiscite and self-determination, adhering to their quest for freedom. Minhas urged the United Nations to fulfill its role in peacefully resolving the Kashmir dispute, referencing UN resolutions and the Kashmiri people’s aspirations to prevent potential crises similar to those in other global conflict zones.

He further criticized the Indian government’s strategies, which he alleges include utilizing judicial and investigative bodies to systematically oppress the Kashmiri movement for autonomy and freedom. The spokesman’s call extended to global human rights organizations, urging them to recognize and act against the unlawful detentions and other violations occurring in the region.
