Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has decried the confiscation of senior Hurriyat leader Muhammad Farooq Rehmani’s ancestral property by authorities in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir region. The property, valued at millions, was seized in what the APHC-AJK terms a strategy to silence pro-independence advocates.
Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Secretary Information of APHC-AJK, stated from Islamabad that this action is part of a broader initiative to suppress self-determination efforts in the region. He highlighted that numerous properties belonging to Kashmiris have been similarly seized by Indian authorities.
Butt pointed out that during the holy month of Ramadan, raids have continued unabated on the homes of Hurriyat leaders, activists, media personnel, and human rights defenders, spreading fear throughout the valley. He condemned these invasions of privacy and sanctity during the sacred month as particularly troubling.
The APHC-AJK has raised alarms over the eviction of Kashmiris from their lands and the transfer of these properties to non-residents, actions they claim violate international law. Butt called on the United Nations to intervene to halt these practices.
He reiterated that the Kashmiri people are peaceful and are being targeted for demanding their right to self-determination. Butt accused the Indian government of using religious discrimination to unjustly link Kashmir’s freedom movement with terrorism.
