Muzaffarabad, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), has strongly dismissed India’s objections regarding the recent visit of the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, to Mirpur in AJK. The President described India’s stance on the issue as baseless.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the AJK President articulated his views in a statement, addressing the Indian government’s criticism of Marriott’s visit. He argued that the Indian government, having hosted events for the G20 summit in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir last year, lacks both moral and legal grounds to contest the visit of foreign diplomats to Azad Kashmir.
Barrister Sultan emphasized that envoys from various countries have made visits to Azad Kashmir in the past and will continue to do so in the future. This statement comes in response to India’s expressed disapproval of Marriott’s visit, marking a point of contention in the ongoing diplomatic exchanges concerning the region of Jammu and Kashmir.
The visit of the British High Commissioner and the subsequent reaction of the Indian government highlight the ongoing complexities and sensitivities surrounding the status and international interactions with both the Indian and Pakistani-administered areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
