New Delhi: The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has unveiled plans for a widespread protest movement across India in response to the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act. The organization announced that it would work alongside religious, community-based, and social groups to campaign for the repeal of the legislation.
The announcement follows the endorsement of the Waqf bill by several National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituents, including the JD(U), TDP, and LJP (Ramvilas). The AIMPLB criticized these parties for backing what it described as a communal agenda, accusing them of exposing their secular credentials.
AIMPLB reaffirmed its commitment to spearhead the protest campaign, insisting that it would maintain efforts until the amendments are rescinded. The board reassured the Muslim community that there was no reason for despair and promised to lead a robust movement within the constitutional framework.
The board’s statement came after President Droupadi Murmu granted her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, along with the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2025.
AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Mohammed Fazlurrahim Mujaddidi detailed the proposed nationwide campaign. He emphasized that the board plans to challenge the amendments legally in the Supreme Court while engaging in peaceful protests, including demonstrations, wearing black armbands, organizing roundtable discussions, and holding press conferences.
The protests are set to include symbolic arrests by Muslim leaders in state capitals and district-level demonstrations throughout the country.
