ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is on the verge of a digital revolution as it positions 5G technology as a key driver of national development, according to Minister of Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal. In a recent address in Islamabad, the Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to integrating advanced digital connectivity into its economic framework.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Iqbal introduced a comprehensive Five-Es framework that focuses on export-led growth, e-Pakistan initiatives, environmental and climate action, energy and infrastructure development, and equity and empowerment. This strategic approach aims to harness the full potential of digital technologies like 5G to foster industrial, social, and economic growth.
The Minister underscored that 5G technology represents more than just a leap in internet speed. It is poised to act as a catalyst for transformation across various sectors. Citing estimates from the World Economic Forum, he noted that 5G could contribute up to $13.2 trillion to the global economy by 2030, emphasizing its pivotal role in future growth.
Iqbal detailed the immense opportunities that 5G technology could unlock in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, agriculture, industry, and smart cities. He also pointed to the significance of recent collaborations, highlighting the memoranda of understanding signed between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission. These agreements are expected to significantly advance telecommunications, digital innovation, and connectivity efforts.
The Minister’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to drive economic progress and improve quality of life, marking a significant step forward in the country’s digital transformation journey.
