Stakeholders Align on Counter-Terrorism Strategy: Naqvi

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that the Prime Minister, Army Chief, and key stakeholders have unified their efforts to combat terrorism in the country.

Following the second meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Committee in Islamabad, Naqvi highlighted the commitment to consult with provincial authorities before making any decisions.

Discussions focused on enhancing the capacity of Counter-Terrorism Departments at the provincial level. Naqvi emphasized the importance of activating these departments to ensure an effective response and pledged support to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, acknowledging their unique challenges.

The minister also stressed the need to activate the Counter-Terrorism Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency at the national level.

Progress was reported on establishing National and Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centers. Naqvi mentioned the reorganization of the Frontier Constabulary, now being transitioned into the National Reserve Police.

Further, the meeting saw a consensus to make explosive materials a federal subject for better monitoring and control. Additionally, the Foreign Ministry was tasked with addressing terrorism concerns with the Afghan government.

Naqvi concluded by urging strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the security of foreign nationals in the country.
