Sindh Government Embraces Inclusive Hiring with Hindu Recruitment in Police Force

Karachi: In a significant move towards inclusive governance, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced the recruitment of Hindus into the provincial police force, encompassing Kolhis, Bhils, and Meghwars, as part of a broader inclusive hiring policy. This initiative was revealed during a meeting with Hindu community leaders from the Larkana and Sukkur divisions.

Addressing longstanding concerns, Mr. Shah dispelled the notion that Hindus are disproportionately targeted in kidnapping cases, stating that out of 310 reported kidnappings in 2024-25, only eight involved Hindu victims, with seven already recovered. He noted that the government has made substantial progress in tackling kidnappings for ransom.

The meeting was attended by various provincial ministers, members of the provincial assembly, and senior officials. Mr. Shah acknowledged the vital role of the Hindu community in Sindh’s development across multiple sectors, affirming the provincial government’s commitment to addressing issues faced by minorities.

Law-and-order challenges in divisions like Kashmore and Kandhkot were reviewed, with improvements noted in Shikarpur and Larkana. However, increased incidents of motorcycle and car thefts in Larkana were highlighted.

Hindu community members voiced concerns over illegal occupation of temple lands and unresolved kidnapping cases, particularly that of Rajesh, missing for five months. Mr. Shah directed the Inspector General of Police to prioritize Rajesh’s recovery.

The chief minister emphasized ongoing crackdowns against criminals, with 152 dacoits targeted in operations that have seen 20 police officers martyred. He reiterated the government’s protective stance towards minorities, asserting that the Pakistan Peoples Party remains steadfast in its support.

To enhance issue resolution, Mr. Shah announced the formation of divisional committees comprising Hindu Panchayat representatives, Commissioners, and Deputy Inspectors General. He also offered to post Hindu policemen for the security of holy places if desired by the community.

Reaffirming a commitment to curbing street crime, Mr. Shah concluded, “We will eliminate criminals, not collaborate with them.”
