KARACHI: In a significant move to boost infrastructure, welfare, and reform initiatives, the Sindh Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved a comprehensive agenda totaling over Rs30 billion. The agenda encompasses a variety of projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, healthcare, governance, education, and public relief across the province.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the cabinet meeting, held at the CM House, included the allocation of Rs. 515 million as a fuel subsidy for the fishing community across Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin. This initiative aims to provide immediate financial relief in light of rising diesel prices, which have negatively impacted the livelihoods of fishermen. Additionally, Rs147.2 million was approved for consultancy services related to the construction of a new bridge over the River Indus between Hyderabad and Kotri, which is expected to facilitate traffic between the regions.
The cabinet meeting also resulted in several other key decisions, including substantial financial allocations for urban development projects, legal and judicial reforms, and initiatives aimed at modernizing public service delivery. Projects such as the upgrade of road infrastructure in Karachi, the establishment of a new drainage system in Hyderabad, and the expansion of healthcare facilities in Sukkur were among the highlights of the approved agenda.
Furthermore, efforts to improve governance were reflected in the approval of amendments to existing legislative frameworks, the establishment of a dedicated China Desk to foster international investment, and a revised framework for the appointment of Vice Chancellors in educational institutions. The cabinet’s decisions underscore a commitment to addressing pressing societal needs while laying the groundwork for sustainable development across Sindh.
