Resolution Adopted at Kashmir Conference Calls for India to Withdraw Forces from Disputed Region

Islamabad: A resolution demanding the withdrawal of Indian military and paramilitary forces from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) was unanimously adopted at the Kashmir Conference in Islamabad today. The resolution underscored the necessity of resolving the Kashmir dispute in alignment with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people to ensure peace in South Asia.

The event was attended by key figures including the Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhary Anwar ul Haq, representatives of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), as well as members of academia, civil society, and the legal community.

The resolution urged India to repeal what it described as repressive laws, ensure justice for victims, and reverse actions taken on August 5, 2019. It also called for the restoration of the region’s pre-1947 status and demanded India to halt demographic changes, release political detainees, and return confiscated properties in IIOJK.

The conference implored the United Nations and the international community to implement UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir promptly. It also pressed for India to allow access to UN observers, international media, and human rights organizations.

Serious concerns were raised about India’s alleged violations of international law and its failure to honor UN commitments. The conference accused India of demographic engineering through non-resident domiciles and electoral gerrymandering to alter the region’s Muslim majority.

Tributes were paid to the martyrs of Kashmir who have pursued the right to self-determination, and the resilience of Kashmiri political leaders and human rights defenders was acknowledged.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He praised the Hurriyat leadership for their resilience despite facing oppressive tactics and imprisonment.

Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhary Anwar-ul-Haq described Azad Kashmir as the base camp for the region’s freedom movement. He called for unity and proactive efforts to expose human rights violations in IIOJK.
