Report Highlights India’s Land Rights Violations in Occupied Kashmir Since 2019

Paris: A new report titled “Your Land is Our Land – India’s Land Rights Violations in Kashmir” has documented widespread violations of land rights in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) since the abrogation of its special status in August 2019. The 50-page report outlines how changes to land laws have resulted in mass evictions, property destruction, and the confiscation of land, affecting thousands of Kashmiris.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) calls for international attention to the situation. Juliette Rousselot, Deputy Director of FIDH’s Asia Desk, stated, “The Indian government’s obliteration of Jammu and Kashmir’s legal framework, which had protected land rights for decades, has already had a disastrous impact on the Kashmiri people.” She urged global institutions, including the UN Human Rights Council, to pressure India to comply with international legal standards.

The report also sheds light on increased repression in the region, with the criminalization of civil society, arrests of human rights defenders, and suppression of journalists. The report is dedicated to Kashmiri human rights defender Khurram Parvez, who has been detained since 2021 under politically motivated charges.
