Multan: The International Mediation and Arbitration Centre (IMAC), established by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of Pakistan, has initiated a two-day arbitration training session at the High Court Bar Association in Multan. The training aims to equip lawyers with modern dispute resolution skills and encourage the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in an effort to alleviate court backlogs and enhance access to timely justice.
According to Press Information Department, the opening ceremony featured Fayaz Hussain Khan Lagari, General Secretary of the High Court Bar Association Multan, as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Registrar IMAC Ehsan Ullah Khan, Gulfam Hameed, Additional Director at the Ministry of Law and Justice, Barrister Mian Sheraz Javaid, and Malik Aneeq Ali Khatana. The event also attracted a large number of lawyers from Multan and surrounding districts.
Registrar IMAC Ehsan Ullah Khan emphasized the growing importance of arbitration and mediation as crucial elements of contemporary justice systems. He pointed out that efficient dispute resolution is vital for economic growth and bolstering investor confidence. “Through IMAC, the Ministry of Law and Justice is working to strengthen institutional ADR in Pakistan and equip lawyers with the skills required for modern arbitration practice,” he stated.
Chief Guest Fayaz Hussain Khan Lagari commended the Ministry of Law and Justice and IMAC for organizing professional training programs for lawyers. He noted that arbitration is gaining global recognition as a faster and more effective method of resolving disputes. Such training programs, he added, are invaluable for lawyers seeking to enhance their professional expertise and contribute to improved access to justice.
Barrister Mian Sheraz Javaid, the Lead Trainer and an international arbitrator, underscored the significance of developing practical arbitration skills among legal practitioners to address the evolving demands of both domestic and international dispute resolution.
The initial day of training highlighted the strategic relevance of ADR and arbitration in Pakistan, with sessions on topics such as Introduction to ADR in Pakistan, the Role of IMAC, Arbitration in Pakistan – Legislative Framework, and Drafting Arbitration Agreements and Common Drafting Pitfalls.
The training brings together lawyers and legal practitioners from Multan and nearby districts, offering them practical exposure to arbitration procedures and professional best practices. IMAC continues to organize similar programs across Pakistan as part of its mission to promote mediation and arbitration, strengthen professional capacity, and support the development of a modern and efficient dispute resolution system in the country.
