Qatar and Pakistan Mediate High-Level Talks at Lake Lucerne Summit

Lucerne: The conclusion of the Lake Lucerne Summit in Burgenstock, Switzerland, marked a significant milestone in diplomatic negotiations involving the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, mediated by the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The summit, held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, saw the establishment of a High-Level Committee to oversee ongoing mediation efforts.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere, leading to the creation of a mechanism for further technical discussions. The newly formed High-Level Committee will provide political oversight, with chief negotiators reporting regularly and leading working groups on nuclear issues, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute resolution group to ensure effective implementation of the MoU.

The committee has agreed on a roadmap to reach a final deal within 60 days, facilitating immediate technical talks. Additionally, a communication line has been established to prevent incidents and miscommunication, specifically ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. A de-confliction cell will be created to terminate military operations in Lebanon, in line with the MoU.

Technical discussions will continue at the Burgenstock resort throughout the week, focusing on all issues. The mediators reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a constructive atmosphere to reach a final agreement. Qatar and Pakistan expressed appreciation to Iran and the United States for their dedication to diplomacy and acknowledged the support of other nations in these negotiations.
