Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Kite Flying Activities Across Province

Lahore: In a concerted effort to enforce the Prohibition of Kite Flying Act, the Punjab Police, under the leadership of Inspector General Abdul Kareem, has announced a stringent crackdown on kite flying and related activities throughout the province. This initiative aims to curb the illegal practice through the deployment of modern surveillance technologies and increased police actions.

According to Punjab Police, the inspector general emphasized that kite flying would not be tolerated anywhere in the province, and violators will face strict legal consequences. The police have taken significant steps this year, arresting 6,185 individuals and registering 5,912 cases for violations of the kite flying ban. The crackdown has also resulted in the recovery of 417,124 kites and 10,764 string reels.

IG Abdul Kareem has instructed regional, city, and district police officers to ensure the rigorous implementation of the ban and to expand operations against kite flying. The police plan to enhance monitoring of individuals involved in kite flying through the use of drones, Safe City cameras, and binoculars. The police have also targeted the online sale of metallic strings and kites, urging parents to steer their children away from what they describe as a “deadly game.”

Residents are encouraged to report any kite flying activities to the Police Helpline 15. In Lahore alone, 2,228 individuals have been arrested, and 2,105 cases registered, with authorities recovering 10,694 kites and 3,089 string reels. The Punjab Police’s intensified actions reflect a broader commitment to eliminate this dangerous activity from the province.
