Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced that the prices of petroleum products will remain unchanged despite a significant rise in global oil prices. In a televised address to the nation, the Prime Minister explained that a proposal to increase petrol prices by 76 rupees per liter and diesel by 177 rupees per liter had been presented to him, but he decided against it to protect the public during Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to Radio Pakistan, the federal government will absorb a financial burden of 45 billion rupees to maintain current petrol prices. The Prime Minister addressed the extraordinary global circumstances, noting that the ongoing regional conflict has severely impacted the global economy, peace, and stability, affecting the lives of ordinary citizens. He highlighted that global oil prices have escalated, with crude oil prices surging from 72 dollars per barrel to 158 dollars per barrel in recent weeks.

Prime Minister Sharif acknowledged the previous increase of 55 rupees in petrol and diesel prices, which had already placed significant pressure on the public, and expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and wisdom. He mentioned that on the 13th of this month, another sharp increase in international oil prices prompted a proposal to raise petroleum prices, which he also rejected to safeguard the common man.

The Prime Minister stated that the government had already shouldered a burden of 24 billion rupees last week by not increasing prices and has instructed relevant ministries to ensure that government relief reaches those in need. Additionally, he emphasized the implementation of austerity measures and effective utilization of national resources as part of the government’s strategy. He called for unity, brotherhood, and sacrifice during these challenging times.

In closing, Prime Minister Sharif extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the nation, emphasizing that in the current circumstances, Eid requires compassion, national solidarity, and collective responsibility.
