ISLAMABAD: The Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has called for increased national efforts to enhance breast cancer awareness, promote early detection, and ensure equitable access to healthcare for women throughout the country. This announcement was made in observance of International Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Speaker emphasized the importance of addressing breast cancer as a public health issue that impacts not only women but also their families and communities. He highlighted the necessity of timely medical consultations, accurate information, early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment to improve health outcomes.
The Speaker stressed that awareness campaigns should extend beyond symbolic gestures, advocating for sustained public education, accessible screening and diagnostic services, and robust support systems for affected women. He emphasized that financial constraints, geographical barriers, social stigma, or a lack of awareness should not prevent women from seeking necessary medical care.
Highlighting the role of Parliament, Sadiq stated the need for collaborative efforts among governments, healthcare institutions, parliamentarians, civil society, media, and community organizations to enhance breast cancer awareness and improve treatment access. He also underscored the importance of empowering women with reliable health information and encouraging familial support for timely medical advice.
Special attention, Sadiq noted, should be given to women in rural and underserved areas, where healthcare access may be limited. He advocated for strengthened preventive healthcare, improved referral systems, expanded diagnostic services, and compassionate patient support throughout treatment and recovery.
The Speaker acknowledged the dedication of healthcare professionals, researchers, community health workers, volunteers, and organizations in raising awareness and supporting those affected by breast cancer. He called on media and educational institutions to actively dispel misconceptions and promote evidence-based public awareness.
Urging women and families to prioritize breast health and seek professional medical advice promptly, Sadiq emphasized that breast cancer awareness is a collective responsibility. He affirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to fostering dialogue, parliamentary engagement, and initiatives to improve women’s health and access to quality healthcare.
The Speaker concluded with a call to action: “Let us transform awareness into action, replace stigma with understanding, and ensure that every woman in Pakistan has the knowledge, support, and opportunity to seek timely diagnosis and quality treatment with dignity and confidence.”
