Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared that the government’s development priorities will focus on hydropower projects and water reservoirs, indicating that ministries demonstrating commendable performance will receive preferential treatment in terms of funding allocation. This was announced during a meeting on the current and upcoming fiscal year’s Public Sector Development Programme.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister stressed that the investment of public funds would be confined to projects with guaranteed outcomes. He articulated that initiatives aimed at bolstering water storage capacity and hydropower generation are at the forefront of the government’s developmental agenda. Additionally, he urged for an expansion of public-private partnerships in executing development projects.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb received commendations from Prime Minister Sharif for the successful issuance of Panda Bonds, which have been well-received in the market. The performance of the Railways, Information Technology, and Power ministries was also praised during the meeting.
The assembly was briefed on the ongoing review of the current year’s Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and the fiscal requirements for forthcoming projects. Updates were shared on significant national water storage and hydropower initiatives, including the Dasu Dam, Diamer-Bhasha Dam, and Mohmand Dam.
