Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called upon religious scholars worldwide to take an active role in fostering unity, countering extremism, and promoting the peaceful message of Islam. Speaking at the conclusion of the Sixth International Paigham-e-Islam Conference 2026, held at the Presidency in Islamabad, he highlighted the array of challenges currently facing the Muslim world, including conflicts, instability, and divisions that require collective wisdom and unity to overcome.
According to Radio Pakistan, the President noted recent developments in West Asia have revealed deep fault lines impacting regional stability and economic conditions, while distorting the global perception of Islam. He pointed out that both external misrepresentation and internal sectarianism contribute to these challenges. Emphasizing Islam’s core teachings of peace and humanity, Zardari urged religious scholars to offer practical and intellectual guidance rooted in Islamic principles to foster harmony, tolerance, and coexistence.
He further elaborated on Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in combating extremism and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to eradicating violence. Zardari also reiterated Pakistan’s foreign policy stance advocating for peaceful dispute resolution in South Asia, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, he expressed unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, and stressed the importance of peace in Afghanistan.
Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening ties with Muslim countries and promoting ideological unity within the Ummah. He underscored the vital role of Ulema in guiding society and promoting the true image of Islam globally.
Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, praised the conference’s focus on global dialogue and emphasized the role of Pakistan’s leadership in promoting unity and stability. He also mentioned the country’s strategic strength, acknowledging past leaders’ contributions to national interests.
Mufti-e-Azam of Palestine, Muhammad Ahmed Hussein, thanked Pakistan for hosting the conference and reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian issue to the Muslim Ummah. He expressed hope for strengthened cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and appreciated Saudi leadership’s support for the Palestinian cause.
Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki, underscored the importance of the Palestine issue for the Muslim world and commended Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a just resolution of the Palestinian issue in line with the aspirations of its people.
