ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is set to form the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) following elections where it reportedly secured close to a two-thirds majority, according to Rana Sanaullah Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs.

According to Radio Pakistan, Sanaullah made the announcement during a news conference in Islamabad, accompanied by Amir Muqam, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan. He stated that the AJK elections were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, and emphasized that attempts to disrupt the electoral process were unsuccessful. Sanaullah also addressed a sit-in occurring in Rawalakot, urging participants to acknowledge the election results and the mandate given by the people to their elected representatives.

Sanaullah assured that the PML-N government would tackle the issues facing Azad Jammu and Kashmir through democratic methods, while warning that legal actions would be pursued against those who engaged in violence and aligned with adversarial elements. Amir Muqam, in his comments, expressed gratitude towards the electorate of AJK for their confidence in the PML-N. He noted the high voter turnout and promised that the commitments made by the party during the campaign would be honored.
