Pakistani Public Divided Over PIA Privatization: Survey Reveals Equal Support and Opposition

Islamabad: A recent survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan reveals that public opinion on the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is evenly split among those aware of the government’s decision. According to the survey, 45% of respondents support the move, while an equal percentage oppose it, with support being more prevalent among men and opposition stronger among those with higher education.

According to Gilani Research Foundation, the survey was conducted with a nationally representative sample of 780 adults who were aware of the PIA privatization decision. The data collection, carried out through telephonic surveys, covered both urban and rural areas across all four provinces from January 15 to February 3, 2026. The margin of error stands at approximately ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence level. The findings indicate a lack of consensus, highlighting a division in public sentiment on the issue.

The survey uncovered gender and educational differences in opinion; 51% of men expressed support for the privatization, while opposition was stronger among those with higher educational qualifications, at 47%. Additionally, 9% of respondents were uncertain about their stance, and 1% did not provide any response.
