Pakistani Parliamentary Delegation Engages in Key Dialogues at IPU Assembly in Istanbul


ISTANBUL: A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti and Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood, participated in a series of bilateral and multilateral engagements at the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Istanbul, Türkiye, with the aim of bolstering parliamentary diplomacy and fostering international collaboration.



According to Senate of Pakistan, the delegation engaged in a formal meeting with the Parliamentary Delegation of Syria, where both parties exchanged perspectives on mutual parliamentary interests, affirming their commitment to enhanced cooperation through dialogue and inter-parliamentary engagement. The Pakistani representatives also interacted with the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Senator Salma Ataullah Jan, emphasizing the significance of sustained parliamentary collaboration and people-to-people contact between Pakistan and Canada.



Additionally, the delegation met with Christopher Kalila, MP of Zambia and Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), along with Mr. Jarvis, Assistant Secretary General of the CPA Secretariat. The discussions centered on the role of parliamentary institutions in democratic strengthening and enhancing engagement among Commonwealth member parliaments. Throughout the assembly, the Pakistani delegation took part in plenary sessions and informal exchanges with global parliamentarians, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and parliamentary diplomacy as tools for promoting peace and mutual understanding.



The 152nd IPU Assembly served as a crucial platform for parliamentary leaders worldwide to discuss contemporary global challenges and reinforce the pivotal role of parliaments in addressing them.
