Karachi: Minister of State for Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani, held a consultative session with members of the business community at the Federal Board of Revenue, Tax office in Karachi. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration, address concerns, and incorporate feedback from stakeholders into the upcoming federal budget.
According to Press Information Department, during the dialogue, Minister Kayani emphasized the government’s commitment to simplifying the tax regime. He stated the objective to introduce a transparent and user-friendly taxation system, aiming to eliminate complex consultancy needs and empower taxpayers through a straightforward, one-page declaration format.
The Minister highlighted efforts for policy continuity, noting the formulation of long-term fiscal strategies to promote growth. He announced efforts to increase direct tax collection while reducing indirect and withholding taxes. Additionally, he mentioned the success of the long-term tariff policy to systematically reduce custom and regulatory duties by 2030, ensuring a predictable environment for traders.
Minister Kayani also addressed the success of the Roshan Digital Account, which has seen an inflow of $12 billion, reflecting public trust in the government’s economic policies. He encouraged the business community to utilize the expanded scope of these accounts for international companies and individuals.
In support of inclusive economic participation, the Minister directed the FBR to establish facilitation desks and appoint focal persons for women entrepreneurs. He instructed the DG Tax Policy to create a structured awareness mechanism, including monthly FBR-led open forums across Chambers of Commerce, to ensure taxpayers have access to information and grievance redressal.
Business leaders present, including representatives from prominent trade organizations, praised the initiative to engage with the grassroots business community during the budget-making process. They expressed confidence in the government’s inclusive approach to policy formulation.
Minister Kayani concluded by inviting the business community to submit comprehensive written proposals, emphasizing the government’s view of the business sector as a vital partner in Pakistan’s journey towards sustainable economic prosperity.
