Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated its call for all parties involved in the renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region. The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) remains an enduring framework for promoting peace and mutual respect, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi.
According to Radio Pakistan, during his weekly news briefing, Andrabi emphasized the challenges in implementing the MoU, yet affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to encouraging all sides to cease violence and resume technical-level talks as per the MoU and the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Statement of June 22. Andrabi expressed hope that all parties would adhere to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing their issues.
The spokesperson noted that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is adversely impacting many countries, particularly in the global south, affecting energy supplies, trade, and food security. He highlighted Pakistan’s recognition of the urgent need to resolve these impacts and underscored the importance of ensuring maritime navigation safety and security.
Amidst prevailing tensions, Pakistan has engaged with regional interlocutors to support de-escalation and peaceful resolutions. Responding to a query, Andrabi condemned the Indian National Investigation Agency’s charges against the All Parties Hurriyat Conference leadership, describing it as a tactic to discredit Kashmir’s legitimate struggle for self-determination.
Andrabi dismissed India’s attempts to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, reiterating demands for an independent investigation. He urged India to reflect on its policies in Indian-administered Kashmir and stressed that lasting peace requires adherence to international law and dialogue, rather than unsubstantiated allegations.
