Pakistan Urges India to Comply with UN Resolutions on Kashmir

New York: Pakistan has called on India to adhere to its international obligations concerning the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the United Nations, Pakistan emphasized that the final status of the territory remains unresolved and should be determined according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people, as outlined in multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to Radio Pakistan, First Secretary Sarfaraz Ahmed Gohar exercised his right of reply during the General Debate of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. He highlighted that numerous Security Council resolutions guarantee the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. Gohar asserted that India is in violation of these resolutions by not implementing them, thus failing to meet its international legal obligations.

Gohar stated that Jammu and Kashmir is not, and has never been, an “inalienable” part of India. He urged India to comply with international obligations to resolve the dispute in line with Security Council resolutions and to cease what he described as the suppression of rights and freedoms in the occupied territory.

Pakistan, Gohar added, is committed to resolving such disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful means, as per the United Nations Charter’s principles. He advised India to adopt a similar approach for the sake of peace, security, and stability in the region, which affects the well-being of over 1.5 billion people in South Asia.
