Pakistan Seeks Stronger Ties with U.S. Amid Minerals Forum


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed Pakistan’s desire to work with President Trump and his administration to enhance bilateral relations with the United States. This statement was made during a meeting with a U.S. delegation led by Eric Meyer, Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.



The U.S. delegation is in Pakistan for the two-day Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, which is being held on April 8-9. Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the U.S. participation in the forum, emphasizing the potential opportunities in Pakistan’s minerals sector and encouraging U.S. companies to invest in this area.



Sharif highlighted the importance of Pakistan-U.S. relations for regional peace and security, as well as for cooperation in mutual interests, including trade, investment, and counter-terrorism.



During the meeting, Acting Assistant Secretary Meyer congratulated Pakistan on hosting the forum and acknowledged the potential of its mineral sector. He conveyed the interest of U.S. companies in investing in this sector and expressed a desire to collaborate with Pakistan on shared interests.



Meyer also expressed the U.S.’s interest in strengthening bilateral ties with Pakistan.



The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, SAPM Tariq Fatemi, and other senior government officials.
