ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully garnered consensus in the Fifth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly to adopt a resolution on financing revised estimates on Islamophobia, marking a significant diplomatic achievement.
At the closing meeting of the first part of the 79th UNGA session, Jibran Khan Durrani, First Secretary at the Pakistan Mission, expressed appreciation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states, the Group of 77 and China, along with other partners for their support in reaching a consensual decision on the resolution.
Pakistan emerged as a leading negotiator in the discussions held by the Fifth Committee.
The resolution mandates the establishment of the Office of the Special Envoy on Combating Islamophobia, effective from the first of next month.
