Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has conveyed his felicitations to the nation following the signing of the “Makkah Joint Defence Agreement” by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, marking a notable development in regional defense collaboration.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that this agreement represents a commitment to enhancing peace, security, and stability among the three nations. Dar described the accord as a pivotal step in strengthening Pakistan’s strategic relationships with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, underscoring shared values and mutual interests.

The agreement, known as the Makkah Accord, aims to bolster collective defense measures without targeting any specific nation. Dar highlighted its intention to strengthen deterrence against external threats and enhance the countries’ capacity to safeguard their sovereignty and territorial integrity. The accord stipulates that an armed attack against one member state will be considered an attack on all, in line with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to resolving disputes peacefully, respecting sovereignty, and upholding international law in pursuit of regional peace and prosperity. He clarified that the Makkah Accord is not confrontational but reflects a joint commitment to achieving peace through solidarity and mutual respect.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the contributions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the Foreign Office of Pakistan in realizing this agreement, praising their role in fortifying Pakistan’s national interests and strategic partnerships.
