New York: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the Global Zero-Waste Movement, underscoring the importance of sustainable waste management practices and international cooperation to combat the growing waste crisis.
In remarks delivered at the United Nations General Assembly on the International Day of Zero Waste, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative-designate to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, highlighted the nation’s proactive stance on zero-waste initiatives.
Ambassador Ahmad noted that despite facing numerous challenges, Pakistan is actively implementing national policies and initiatives to support the movement. He emphasized the country’s dedication to overcoming obstacles in waste management through strategic planning and execution.
Addressing the difficulties faced by developing nations in achieving zero waste, Ambassador Ahmad called for special and differential treatment. He further advocated for capacity-building, technology transfer, and financial support to enable these countries to manage waste sustainably.
