Pakistan Pledges Continued Support for Syria’s Sovereignty

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity during a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister welcomed the Syrian delegation and extended his best wishes to President Ahmed al-Sharaa. He affirmed Pakistan’s backing of Syria’s stance on the Golan Heights and highlighted the historical ties between the two nations. Sharif emphasized the importance of translating these long-standing relations into enhanced cooperation across various sectors, including politics, defense, trade, investment, education, and human resource development.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the potential resumption of direct flights, which he believes would facilitate people-to-people exchanges and aid religious pilgrims traveling from Pakistan to Syria. Furthermore, an invitation was extended to President al-Sharaa for an official visit to Pakistan.

In response, Foreign Minister Al-Shaibani conveyed President al-Sharaa’s greetings and briefed Prime Minister Sharif on Syria’s political transition and reconstruction efforts. He expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s consistent support and voiced interest in revitalizing bilateral engagement through early institutional cooperation mechanisms. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch were also present at the meeting.
