Islamabad: The Sugar Advisory Board, in a meeting chaired by the Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanvir Hussain, has recommended the export of 100,000 metric tons of surplus sugar, addressing the country’s excess stock while maintaining stable domestic prices.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the decision to export the surplus comes after careful review of current sugar stocks and prices within Pakistan, ensuring that the domestic market remains unaffected. Minister Hussain emphasized that the proposed exports would not lead to any increase in the ex-mill prices of sugar, aligning with the government’s commitment to stabilize food prices.

The recommendation by the Sugar Advisory Board is pending final approval from the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet, which will consider the terms and conditions set forth for the export process. This move is part of broader efforts by the government to manage agricultural outputs efficiently and to capitalize on favorable market conditions abroad.
