Pakistan Marks World Population Day 2026 with National Dialogue on Youth and Development


Islamabad: The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSR&C), in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and development partners, observed World Population Day 2026 in Islamabad. The event focused on the theme “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future,” bringing together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to youth investment and sustainable development.



According to Press Information Department, the commemoration gathered parliamentarians, government officials, religious scholars, and representatives from various sectors to underscore the importance of informed and voluntary family planning as foundational to sustainable development. Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal highlighted that population stabilization is a multifaceted issue affecting national security, economic stability, and sustainable growth, pointing out Pakistan’s current population of approximately 241 million with a growth rate of 2.55 percent.



Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, emphasized the need for coordinated efforts across health, education, and employment sectors to manage population growth effectively. The event also featured discussions on the significant role of legislative support, policy direction, and partnerships in achieving population stabilization and sustainable development goals.
