Government Vows to Stabilize Wheat and Fuel Supplies Amid Concerns of Hoarding


Islamabad: In a decisive move to address concerns over wheat and fuel supplies, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema convened a high-level meeting, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate distribution and preventing exploitation through hoarding and profiteering. The meeting, attended by key federal and provincial officials, aimed to assess the country’s current supply situation and formulate strategies to maintain market stability.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting included a comprehensive review of wheat stocks and projected needs across provinces. Provincial representatives acknowledged the current stability in demand and supply but highlighted potential future requirements for additional federal support. Federal Minister Cheema assured that the government aims to meet provincial needs from available PASSCO stocks, prioritizing both public and farmer interests.



Cheema emphasized the importance of vigilance against market manipulation, directing authorities to prepare for the upcoming sowing season. Coordination among stakeholders was highlighted as crucial for timely decision-making to safeguard food security and market balance.



The meeting also addressed fuel supply issues, with a focus on preventing hoarding by Oil Marketing Companies. Participants, including Chairperson OGRA Nabeel Ahmad Awan, evaluated the fuel situation and enforcement strategies. Provincial leaders pledged cooperation with OGRA to ensure continuous fuel availability. Minister Cheema reiterated the government’s stance against artificial shortages and assured sufficient petroleum stocks, warning against legal action for market disruptions.
