Pakistan Secures Dutch Investment in Textile Sector

Lisse: Pakistan’s economic diplomacy has achieved a notable success as The Beddinghouse, a prominent home textile company from the Netherlands, announced its plans to expand its engagement with Pakistan by establishing a permanent corporate presence. This move involves investing in skilled human capital and collaborating on circular textile innovation.

According to Press Information Department, the announcement was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Syed Haider Shah, and The Beddinghouse CEO, Henriëtte van Beynum, at the company’s headquarters in Lisse. The Beddinghouse, which has sourced textile products from Pakistan for decades, now views the country as a strategic partner for growth. As part of this strategy, the company will set up its first corporate office in Lahore and begin hiring senior Pakistani professionals to lead local operations.

The company’s “Circular Dreams” initiative aims to develop a circular textile value chain by transforming post-consumer textile waste from the Netherlands into recycled yarns and finished products using Pakistan’s advanced textile manufacturing capabilities. Executives noted that Pakistan’s integrated textile industry and focus on sustainability position it as a key partner in Europe’s shift towards a circular economy.

The Beddinghouse CEO acknowledged advancements made by Pakistani textile manufacturers in renewable energy, water stewardship, and social compliance, among other areas, enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

Ambassador Shah welcomed the company’s plans, describing the decision as a vote of confidence in Pakistan’s textile sector. He emphasized the Embassy’s continued efforts to facilitate business partnerships and connect Dutch companies with investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan also endorsed the development, attributing it to the Government’s economic diplomacy strategies and efforts to promote value-added exports. The Minister highlighted the role of the Embassy in The Hague and Trade & Investment Counsellor Muhammad Shafiq Haider Virk in fostering strategic partnerships between Pakistan and the Netherlands.
