Islamabad: The first Hajj flight under the Road to Makkah project departed from Islamabad International Airport today, carrying 270 pilgrims. The initiative, which aims to streamline travel formalities, was launched in the presence of Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, alongside senior officials.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Road to Makkah project facilitates the completion of Saudi immigration and other formalities at the departure airport, smoothing the pilgrims’ arrival process in Saudi Arabia. This year, the project has been expanded to include Lahore, complementing existing operations in Karachi and Islamabad, and is projected to benefit over 95,000 pilgrims. The government is also providing e-SIM cards to ensure pilgrims can stay connected with their families back home.
Additional facilities include modern tents and high-speed train services connecting Makkah and Madinah. Minister Yousuf expressed gratitude to Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz and other Saudi officials for their support in Hajj preparations. He congratulated the pilgrims and encouraged them to uphold Pakistan’s honor during their pilgrimage.
