New York: Pakistan has underscored the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute to ensure lasting peace and stability in South Asia. The United Nations Security Council’s Annual Report for 2025 has highlighted the ongoing significance of longstanding conflicts, including the Kashmir issue and the Question of Palestine, reflecting their impact on regional dynamics.
According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, articulated these points during the presentation of the Security Council’s Annual Report to the General Assembly. Ahmad emphasized that enduring peace in South Asia is contingent upon a fair resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with relevant Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He reiterated the necessity for allowing Kashmiris to exercise their right to self-determination, a right recognized by the Security Council and the international community.
Ahmad also expressed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine. He highlighted the need for the state to be viable and contiguous, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
