Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to bolstering its bilateral ties with Sweden. The announcement came during a meeting with the Swedish Ambassador, Alexandra Cannell Berg von Linde, as the two nations mark the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Gilani highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Sweden, characterized by mutual respect and shared values. He stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary collaboration, trade, and addressing global challenges like Islamophobia as key areas for further cooperation.
Gilani emphasized the need for enhanced political dialogue, trade and investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that strengthening inter-parliamentary relations could contribute to building understanding and global peace, advocating for exchange visits between parliamentary delegations.
The chairman expressed satisfaction with the economic cooperation between the two nations and invited Swedish companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s business-friendly environment. Additionally, he underlined Pakistan’s commitment to combating climate change and working with Sweden on renewable energy initiatives.
In addressing global concerns, Gilani acknowledged the impact of Islamophobia on peace and interfaith harmony, urging collaborative efforts with Sweden to promote inclusivity and tolerance. He also highlighted the importance of expanding student exchange programs and scholarships to enhance mutual understanding and academic collaboration.
