Islamabad: Pakistan and Russia are exploring avenues to deepen their collaboration in agriculture and livestock sectors, as Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Nikita Buzanov, a representative from Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation to boost agricultural productivity in Pakistan.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting highlighted the potential for Russia to support Pakistan through increased trade, technological exchange, and technical cooperation. Minister Hussain emphasized the importance of modern agricultural machinery to improve farm productivity and reduce costs, expressing interest in collaboration with Russia for access to such technologies.

The discussions also covered the timely availability of fertilizers and pesticides to Pakistani farmers at affordable prices, with an emphasis on how Russian cooperation could support these needs. Minister Hussain stressed the importance of strengthening the livestock sector, particularly in disease prevention and animal health, through access to quality vaccines and technologies.

Both officials agreed on the need for increased engagement between institutions and private-sector stakeholders in both countries to identify concrete projects and trade opportunities. Mr. Buzanov conveyed Russia’s readiness to explore supplying agricultural machinery, fertilizers, and vaccines to Pakistan, and expressed interest in expanding bilateral trade in agriculture-related products. The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to continue consultations and explore further opportunities to support Pakistan’s food security objectives.
