Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Railways held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing railway connectivity, and addressing regional developments.
According to Press Information Department, the discussion underscored Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its longstanding ties with Iran, emphasizing the historical and cultural connections shared by the two nations. The meeting explored avenues for expanding cooperation, particularly in the railway sector, with a focus on the Taftan-Zahedan route and the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul freight train project. Both parties concurred on the importance of enhanced railway collaboration in boosting regional trade and connectivity.
The talks included a review of the ongoing repair and rehabilitation efforts on the Quetta-Taftan railway section. The Federal Minister stressed the necessity of improved infrastructure and security measures to maintain uninterrupted railway operations.
Regional issues, notably those concerning the Middle East, were also on the agenda. Pakistan reaffirmed its support for peace and dialogue as solutions to regional challenges. Ambassador Moghadam acknowledged Pakistan’s role in fostering regional stability and praised its diplomatic endeavors.
The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for regional peace and dialogue. Both sides agreed to continue enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the railway sector, while maintaining a commitment to dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution.
