Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan held a significant consultative meeting with the Vice Chairmen and Executive Committee Heads of the Pakistan Bar Council and Provincial Bar Councils to discuss ongoing reforms in the justice sector.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting, held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, included key figures such as Mr. Muhammad Masood Chishti, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, as well as leaders from provincial bar councils. High-level officials like the Secretary of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan and the Director General of the Federal Judicial Academy were also in attendance, with additional participation via video link.
The Bar Council representatives expressed their appreciation for the meeting and acknowledged the reform measures under consideration. They highlighted the necessity for improved capacity-building initiatives for young lawyers and discussed issues such as the verification of academic degrees, rotation of judges, and inconsistent legal rulings on similar matters.
In response, the Chief Justice outlined the Continuing Legal Education programs offered by the Federal Judicial Academy and noted that the training calendar is accessible online. An online course specifically designed for young lawyers has been disseminated to facilitate their participation. Additionally, physical training sessions, including one for Sindh Province lawyers in July 2026, are planned.
The Chief Justice also invited the Bar Councils to report instances of conflicting judgments to the Law and Justice Commission for review. He assured that institutional and administrative issues would be addressed through appropriate channels. The meeting underscored the commitment of both the Bench and the Bar to enhancing access to justice and fostering a responsive and independent legal system in Pakistan.
