Islamabad: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, has commended Pakistan for its significant role in resolving the Iran conflict. In a recent telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, both leaders discussed the importance of collaboration among OIC member states to address regional issues.

According to Radio Pakistan, Deputy Prime Minister Dar congratulated Ahmed on his election as the OIC Secretary-General and reaffirmed the special importance Pakistan places on its relationship with the OIC. Dar expressed confidence in Ahmed’s ability to advance the interests of the Muslim Ummah and address pressing issues such as Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir.

The OIC Secretary-General acknowledged Pakistan’s support for his candidacy and recognized the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in mediating the end of the Iran conflict. He also congratulated Dar on the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, highlighting its contribution to regional peace and security.

Both officials agreed on the necessity of strengthening the OIC’s role in serving the Muslim Ummah and expressed their intention to continue close coordination, with plans for an early meeting to further these goals.
