Islamabad: Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar announced plans to activate the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) soon, aiming to bolster the institutional framework for protecting minority communities’ rights and interests in Pakistan.

According to Press Information Department, the Federal Minister made this statement on National Minorities Day, highlighting significant progress achieved under Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership in safeguarding minority rights. Senator Tarar stated that the National Commission for Minorities would be formally notified in the near future.

Senator Tarar emphasized that National Minorities Day serves as a chance to reaffirm Pakistan’s dedication to ensuring equal rights, justice, and citizenship for all individuals, regardless of their faith. He cited the teachings of Islam and the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah as well as constitutional guarantees as a robust foundation for protecting community rights and fostering interfaith harmony.

The Federal Minister reiterated that Pakistan’s Constitution assures fundamental rights to all citizens and that it is the state’s responsibility to safeguard these rights. He stressed the importance of promoting religious freedom, tolerance, and interfaith harmony to build a peaceful and cohesive society.

Senator Tarar noted that the National Commission for Minorities would further strengthen the institutional framework for minority rights protection and play a significant role in this area. He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of minority communities to Pakistan’s development, stating that they are integral to the nation’s unity and progress.

The Federal Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights for minorities, emphasizing the need for equal rights, dignity, and opportunities for all citizens. He called for continued efforts towards an inclusive and harmonious Pakistan, where every citizen enjoys equal rights and dignity.
