Islamabad: The National Assembly has approved a federal budget totaling 18,771 billion rupees for the next fiscal year, emphasizing economic growth and providing tax relief. The budget outlines an economic growth target of four percent and an inflation rate of 8.2 percent.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Finance Bill, 2026 was passed with amendments proposed by Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb. The budget, effective from July 1, 2026, aims for a significant revenue collection by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) estimated at 15,264 billion rupees, along with a non-tax revenue goal of 5,336 billion rupees.
Allocations include 1000 billion rupees for the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and 838 billion rupees for the Benazir Income Support Program. The majority of the Federal PSDP funds are designated for transport and communications, water resources, and energy sectors. Other allocations target areas such as higher education, agriculture, health, and information technology.
The budget also includes relief measures targeting the salaried class and sectors like agriculture, construction, and exports. The National Assembly is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at 11 a.m.
