LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated a fleet of mobile police station vans designed to offer police services directly to citizens at their homes. The initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, consists of 33 mobile units, including six specifically assigned to handle issues concerning women.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, these mobile police stations are equipped with modern facilities and technology, aimed at delivering 14 police-related services. These services range from the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs), online e-tagging, and criminal record checks to the issuance and renewal of driving licenses. The initiative also includes a focus on tenant and private employee registration.
During the inauguration, the chief minister inspected one of the mobile units, interacting with the staff to understand the service delivery process. Each van is staffed with a sub-inspector, a field supervisor, a senior station assistant, and both male and female constables. The vans will service various districts, visiting universities and girls’ colleges based on a pre-defined schedule informed by data from the police emergency helpline 15.
Public awareness regarding the vans’ schedules will be raised through social media, local community announcements, and mosque broadcasts. The vans will operate under specially constituted teams in line with established SOPs, with the presence of a station house officer and beat officer in the field to oversee operations.
CM Punjab emphasized that this initiative is aimed at bridging the gap between the public and police, ensuring easy access to services while reducing the time and travel expenses for citizens, especially those in remote locations. The Pink Mobile Police Stations will have dedicated staff to address sensitive cases involving harassment, violence, and abuse against women and children, reflecting the administration’s commitment to tackling these critical issues.
