ISLAMABAD: The Minority Caucus convened at Parliament House in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Senator Danesh Kumar, focusing on critical issues such as police vacancies in Balochistan and a controversial child marriage case in Lahore. According to Senate of Pakistan, the Additional Inspector General of Balochistan Police briefed the forum on staffing, revealing a shortfall of 5,496 positions and ongoing integration of the Ex-Levies Force into the police department.
Senator Kumar raised concerns about the unfilled minority quota in the constable category, with 702 positions remaining vacant. The forum recommended separate advertisement of these vacancies to ensure their timely filling. The committee also addressed the implementation of minority quotas in Class-IV positions and highlighted the lack of comprehensive data on minority quota compliance across ministries, with representatives from the Establishment Division committing to provide this data by June 2026.
The caucus also discussed the alleged kidnapping of Kiran, a Christian girl from Lahore, with conflicting reports regarding her age and marital status. Dr. Nelson Azeem challenged the police version, insisting on proper age verification in marriage cases. The Minority Caucus recommended a reinvestigation of the case under the Christian Marriage Law, demanding a detailed report in the next meeting.
