Karachi, A large-scale protest erupted today in Jhelum Valley, Azad Kashmir, against the recent custodial killings of three Kashmiri civilians by the Indian Army in the Sirankot area of Poonch district in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstration was marked by fervent anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest was spearheaded by Hurriyat leader and Vice Chairman of Tehreek-e-Shabab-ul-Muslimeen Mushtaq Ahmad Butt. He addressed the gathering, highlighting the Indian Army’s history of detaining and allegedly killing over ten thousand Kashmiris in the past three decades. Butt condemned the Sernakot incident as one of the worst examples of Indian war crimes in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest saw speakers urging international human rights organizations and nations to take immediate notice of the custodial killings in Sarnakot. They called for pressure on India for an impartial investigation and strict action against the soldiers involved in the incident.
Among the notable attendees were Riaz Ahmed Awan, Munir Kunshi, Jahangir Qureshi, Zubair Khan Durrani, Saleem Mir, Asif Durrani, Imtiaz Awan, Arshad Awan, Aftab Awan, Nazakat Qureshi, Falak Khan, Raja Abbas Khan, Quddus Kashmiri, Siddiqui Khan, and Rashid Awan. The protest also drew a significant turnout of youth and citizens expressing their opposition to India’s actions in occupied Kashmir.
The demonstration in Jhelum Valley reflects the ongoing tensions and discontent in the region, stemming from the prolonged conflict in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the alleged human rights violations perpetrated by Indian forces.
