Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, has formed a four-member committee to finalize a performance-based incentive scheme for fish exports. The initiative is designed to enhance seafood export levels without modifying the current tax policies.

According to Press Information Department, the committee is tasked with developing a scheme that rewards incremental export growth, aiming to bolster the competitiveness of the seafood industry and attract investment. The minister emphasized the potential of this initiative to draw businesses to Pakistan’s fisheries sector, highlighting that improved incentives and engagement with exporters could boost seafood exports and contribute more significantly to the national economy.

The committee, led by Fisheries Development Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman, includes Korangi Fish Harbour Authority Director General Dr. Shahid, Marine Fisheries Department Director General Dr. Mansoor Wasan, and Assistant Commissioner Fisheries Muhammad Farhan Khan. They have been instructed to review the proposed incentive plan and present their recommendations within a week. Additionally, the panel will draft proposals for national awards to honor exceptional fish exporters and consult with industry stakeholders to finalize the framework.

During the meeting, Marine Fisheries Department Director General Dr. Mansoor Wasan noted that targeted incentives and enhanced coordination with exporters could increase the international competitiveness of Pakistan’s seafood sector. The minister reported that seafood exports amounted to $568 million in the fiscal year 2025-26 and described the fisheries sector as a vital source of export revenue and employment. He stated that the government is implementing measures to expand seafood exports and improve quality standards through focused incentives and collaboration with industry stakeholders.

Junaid Chaudhry instructed the committee to engage with exporters, processors, and other stakeholders to formulate practical recommendations for increasing exports, encouraging value addition, and strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global seafood market.
