KARACHI: A significant milestone in Pakistan-Romania cultural diplomacy was achieved as the Commissioner Karachi formally handed over the approval for the construction of the Pakistan-Romania Friendship Monument in Karachi to the leadership of the Pakistan Romania Business Council (PRBC).

According to Pakistan Romania Business Council, the approval was granted during a meeting with Atif Farooqi, Advisor and Chief Operating Officer of PRBC, and Sohail Shamim Firpo, Chairman of PRBC. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has authorized the monument to be placed at the intersection of Dr. Mehmood Hussain Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The Pakistan-Romania Friendship Monument is a cultural-diplomacy initiative marking over six decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is intended to symbolize friendship, respect, and cooperation in trade, culture, education, local governance, and people-to-people engagement.

The project is the vision of Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, who advocates for initiatives that strengthen bilateral relations. Atif Farooqi indicated that the monument would represent the enduring relationship between Pakistan and Romania, with PRBC collaborating closely with civic authorities on its design and execution.

Sohail Shamim Firpo extended gratitude to Commissioner Karachi for supporting the initiative and acknowledged the efforts of Assistant Commissioner Iqra Jannat in the approval process. The PRBC will oversee the construction and maintenance of the monument, which aims to enhance Karachi’s urban identity and underscore Pakistan-Romania relations.

Additionally, KMC plans to propose naming a road “Constanta Avenue” or “Constanta Road” at its forthcoming council session for approval.
