Islamabad: Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Pakistan, Andrei Metelitsa, met with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to discuss bilateral economic relations and the upcoming session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission. The meeting focused on strengthening trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between the two nations.
According to Press Information Department, both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in bilateral engagements and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing economic ties. Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the strong political impetus provided by the relationship between the leaders of Pakistan and Belarus, which has opened new avenues for cooperation across multiple sectors.
Discussions included facilitating bilateral transactions and identifying practical financial arrangements to support businesses. Both sides agreed to continue consultations on secure and mutually acceptable payment mechanisms, including local-currency settlements. The minister emphasized the importance of an effective financial mechanism to fully harness the trade potential between the two countries, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, fertilizers, engineering goods, and energy products.
Labour cooperation was also reviewed, with the Belarusian ambassador noting an increase in the number of Pakistani workers employed in Belarus. Both sides agreed to promote transparent recruitment and skills matching to expand employment opportunities for Pakistani workers. The minister appreciated Belarus’s advanced engineering and industrial capabilities and welcomed the revival of cooperation in these sectors.
Preparations for the forthcoming visit of the Belarusian minister and the Joint Ministerial Commission were discussed, with both sides agreeing to utilize these engagements to advance practical cooperation and address trade-related matters. Minister Khan conveyed his regards to the Belarusian leadership and expressed confidence in the continued guidance of Pakistan-Belarus relations towards greater economic cooperation and mutual prosperity.
