Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, called for immediate international action to address the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians, emphasizing the urgency during a meeting on Palestine Solidarity Day. He criticized global powers and the United Nations for their inaction, which he believes has exacerbated the situation, allowing Israel to continue its oppressive measures unchecked.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab expressed his concerns in a meeting with women council members who had earlier protested against Israeli actions outside the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation office. He highlighted the tragic conditions in Gaza and other Palestinian territories, where continuous conflict has left vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, in peril.
Mayor Wahab underscored the importance of global and Islamic unity in facing the atrocities committed against Palestinians. He referenced the historical efforts of former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in unifying the Muslim world and stressed the need for similar solidarity today. He urged Islamic nations to overcome internal divisions and present a united front against oppression.
The mayor also pointed out the active role of Karachi’s citizens and the City Council in opposing injustices worldwide, including in Palestine and Kashmir. He noted that the City Council had passed a resolution condemning the atrocities against Palestinians and reaffirmed its commitment to opposing oppression and supporting justice.
Mayor Wahab concluded his remarks by insisting that condemnation of oppression must be accompanied by decisive actions to halt the oppressors, signaling Karachi’s ongoing commitment to this cause.
